Margery Jean “Margene” Naberhaus, 84, passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025.

She was born Sept. 1, 1941, in Kingfisher, to Harold and Elinor (Johnson) Darrough. She was the third of four children.

In her early years, Margene’s family moved to California and Oregon before returning to Kingfisher when she was 10. There, she made lifelong friends and remained forever proud to be from Kingfisher.

During her senior year of high school, the family moved to Midwest City where she graduated from Star Spencer High School in 1959 - though she always considered Kingfisher High School “her” school.

After high school, Margene worked at the Oklahoma state Capitol.

She married J. Francis “Abe” Naberhaus on Jan. 14, 1961, at Our Lady of Fatima in Nicoma Park. Together they made their home in Okarche where they raised two sons, Mark and John, on the family farm northeast of Okarche.

The Naberhaus family farm has been in the family for 119 years, with only two generations of ownership.

Margene was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for 65 years.

She loved decorating for Christmas at Holy Trinity, counting money with her group and never missed providing food for a funeral dinner.

A fantastic cook and gifted homemaker, she enjoyed her garden and for decades she never missed a good estate sale.

Margene started traveling in her 40s to Europe and made numerous overseas trips with her close friends. She also enjoyed visits to both coasts and countless trips to Las Vegas.

When traveling became more difficult, she found joy at the casino where she made friends with the regulars.

Margene’s greatest joy in life was her family - especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Tia Spurrier and her husband Andrew along with their daughters Tulsi and Tallulah of Edmond, Dr. Bryce Naberhaus of Norman, Grant Naberhaus of Denver, Colo., and Luke Naberhaus of Norman.

Margene was preceded in death by her husband J. Francis Naberhaus; her parents Harold and Elinor Darrough; her in-laws Joe and Clara Naberhaus; her sister-in-law Bev Darrough; her brother-in-law Ben Walker; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jeanette and Ted Bell.

She is survived by her sons Mark Naberhaus of Okarche and John Naberhaus and his wife Holly of Lawton; her brothers Chuck Darrough of Kingfisher and Jim Darrough of Branson, Mo.; her sister Debi Pomykal and husband Dwain of Lake Highlands, Texas; and her sister-in-law Virginia Walker of Enid.

A donation in her name may be made in her honor to Oklahoma Children’s Hospital Foundation, 1001 NW 63rd Street, Suite 210, Oklahoma City, OK 73116; Make A Wish Oklahoma, 1900 NW Expressway, Suite 700, Oklahoma City, OK 73118; or the Holy Trinity Generation to Generation Capital Campaign, 1900 NW Expressway, Suite 700, Oklahoma City, OK 73118.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Okarche under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
