The funeral for Michael R. Meek, 72, was Friday, Aug. 20, at First Baptist Church of Hennessey officiated by Rev. Don Herren. Burial followed at Lyon Valley Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Michael was born at Bridgeport, Texas on Sept. 27, 1948, to J.C. and Frances Terrell Meek and died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, at Hennessey Care Center.

Michael moved to Hennessey in 1971. He married Kay Gabriel Dec. 28, 1972, in Hennessey.

Michael worked for Continental Emsco, PIC and Seaboard Foods, where he retired.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, St. Joseph’s Men’s Club and the American Legion.

Michael served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

He coached peewee football and loved his garden, smoking meat and fishing.

Michael loved substitute teaching until ill health forced him to quit. He also served on the Hennessey school board from 1995- 2000.

He is survived by his wife Kay of the home; two sons, Keith Meek and wife Christy of Hennessey, Kevin Meek and wife Ashley of Bartlesville; one sister, Cynthia Herren and husband Jerry of Cleveland; four grandchildren, Reese Meek, Keaston Meek, Sutton Meek and Ana Meek.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Hennessey Education Foundation or charity of donor’s choice.
