Owen Lafferty

Owen Lafferty, 81, a principal in Wheeler Brothers Grain Co. and the father of Austin Lafferty of Kingfisher, died March 17, 2019, in Oklahoma City.

A memorial service was held March 23 at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church.

He was born July 20, 1937, in Tulsa to Albert and Rosalie Lafferty.

The family moved to Oklahoma City in 1941 and Lafferty graduated from Classen High School in 1955.

He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

He served three years in the U.S. Air Force including a tour in Okinawa.

He and Cinda Wheeler were married in 1963 in Watonga.

They moved to White Deer, Texas, in 1970 where he managed Wheeler Brothers’ Texas operations.

He served on the board of the Texas Grain and Feed Association and on the executive board of the High Plains Boy Scout Council while a resident of Amarillo.

The Laffertys moved to Oklahoma City in 2009 where he was a member of Nichols Hills United Methodist Church, Downtown Rotary Club, Men’s Dinner Club and Mayfair Dance Club.

He was a member of the executive board of Wheeler Brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Cinda; three sons, Austin and wife, Kerri, and grandsons, Haynes and Reece, all of Kingfisher; Todd and wife Allison and two grandsons; Ladd and wife Leigh Ellen and granddaughter and grandson, all of Watonga; a brother, Van and wife Clara, and a sister Virginia Robertson.
