Sheldon Scott Kershner, 57, passed away peacefully in Tulsa on March 31, 2025, with his wife by his side.

He was born Dec. 4, 1967, in Dallas, Texas. He was the youngest of four children. Scott graduated from Seiling High School and grew up in Seiling and Canton. He loved to spend his childhood and free time as an adult at Canton Lake. Scott joined the U.S. Army in 1987 as a cannon crew member, otherwise known as a gun bunny. He was stationed in Germany and then moved to Fort Hood in Waco, Texas.

He always talked about how much he hated it there because of how loud and big the rattlesnakes were. He left the Army on March 30, 1992, and enlisted in the National Guard on March 31, 1992, until he separated on Sept. 24, 1995.

After the Army, he was a man of many talents. Scott worked as a delivery driver, private detective, bartender, one we will keep classified and electrician, where he finally found his passion.

He worked all over Texas and Oklahoma on many plants and oil wells. He loved teaching his trade to all the young newcomers.

Scott met his current wife Kandy at one of her jobs while working in Texas at the 6666 Ranch. He continued to ask her out and kept getting told “No, I have a boyfriend.”

Finally, on April 17, she caved. They spent the night together hanging out with friends and her youngest daughter.

Scott woke up the next morning, tripping over scattered golf balls in his apartment. That’s when he knew she was the one.

Truth be told, he fell in love with her daughter way before he fell in love with her.

It was a shock when they found out they each had five children. They had a baker’s dozen together. It’s probably a good thing they couldn’t have more children, who knows how many there would be today.

After 16 years of persistent asking, Kandy finally said “yes” and they said “I do” on July 29, 2023, in Kingfisher.

They had many ups and downs over the years, but it was never boring, to say the least. He worked long and hard hours to support his family and bonus family.

Scott was a wonderful man with many different views on life. He was the best son, brother and father he knew how to be. He loved his family more than he was ever able to express.

He always wanted to be the big, “strong man” and could never show his true self. If you truly knew him – if he ever let you in – you knew he was nothing but a big, fluffy, teddy bear.

He was the kind of person you either loved instantly or took for a snob – until he grew on you and you couldn’t help but love him anyway. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Scott is survived by his mother, Juanita Lyon; brothers Jim (Lisa) Rose and Marty (Terry) Rose-Hammer; his wife, Kandy Kershner; sons Devon Kershner, Kaelob (April) Kershner, Kyle Kershner, Julian Rivera and Craig Meadows; and daughters Hailie Kershner, Alyissa Schanks, Brittany (Tracy) Arms, Destiny Ferguson and Emily Stottlemyre.

He is also survived by granddaughters Desiree Kershner, Karah Kershner and Gracie Kershner; grandsons Walter Kershner, Lashawn Schanks, Colby Schanks, Brentley Meadows and Wyatt Arms; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father John Henry Kershner and his brother John Derrick Kershner.

A celebration of life will be held at Sandy Coves pavilion at Canton Lake at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3.
