Graveside memorial service for Vernon R. Bernhardt, 92, were Saturday July 10, at Kingfisher Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements were by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey.

Vernon was born at Omega on Oct. 13, 1928, to Robert F. and Clara M. Bredel Bernhardt and died Thursday, June 3, 2021, at his home in Kingfisher.

Vernon married Clella Ruth Hanner in Kingfisher on Dec. 26, 1951.

He served in the U. S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1950-1954.

He was a longtime farmer and rancher, an avid photographer and loved to fly.

Vernon was also a talented handyman.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Jo Hooker and husband David of Oklahoma City; two sons, Robert W. Bernhardt and Rose of Imboden, Ark., and Larry D. Bernhardt and wife Donna of Calumet; six grandchildren, James R. Bernhardt, Jason Bernhardt and wife Brook of Geary, Ben Bernhardt of Kingfisher, Kevin Hooker and wife Jenni of Edmond, Jeffrey Bernhardt and wife Ali of Alea, Hawaii, Donnie Bernhardt of Kingfisher; five great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Vernon is also survived by his daughter-in-law Kyra Bernhardt; one brother, Harold Bernhardt and wife Judy; nieces Anita Causey, Debra K. Layton, Pamela S. Pivinski and husband Leon, Kay F. Province, Robin Rother and husband Tim, Debbie Fry; one nephew, Jim Hanner and wife Billie; the Jerry Bernhardt family, the Bredel family and many others.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Clella R. Bernhardt; one son, Gene Bernhardt; one grandson, Brock Bernhardt; one sister, Evelyn Fry and her husband Arthur; and two nephews, David Bernhardt and Ronnie Fry.

The family would like to extend special thanks to longtime caregiver Tami Shipley and all his other caregivers over the years, including his grandson, Donnie Bernhardt. The family is also grateful to the caregivers of Russell-Murray Hospice.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to Kingfisher Meals on Wheels, Kingfisher Federated Church, or Russell-Murray Hospice with the funeral home serving as custodians of the funds.
