Wanda Jo Vaughn passed peacefully from this life on April 20, 2022, at Baptist Village in Oklahoma City.

She was born in Okemah on Nov. 29, 1935, to Chas and Hazel Beasley, the first of five children.

She married Jimmie B. Vaughn on Dec. 26, 1951. From that union came four children: Melinda, Jimmie Sue, Rhonda and Steven.

Many grandchildren followed: Melinda’s four children, Becky, Nathan, Camisa and Aaron; Jimmie Sue’s three children, Tracy, Jeremey and Kelli; Rhonda’s children, April, Josh, Jenny and Michael; Steven’s two daughters, Leah and Stormy.

She was a resident of Kingfisher from 1966 to 2000, during which time she raised their children together at Elmer’s Lake.

She worked at First Shamrock from 1967 to 1980, then worked at Kingfisher Regional Hospital until she began work at Pioneer Telephone Cooperative in 1997.

She worked at Pioneer for 13 years as a housekeeper until she retired in 2000 and moved to Edmond.

Wanda Jo’s quilting was her passion and if you own one of these quilts, you know how special her quilts are.

She was especially happy to teach her children and grandchildren how to sew, cook and can different foods. Her apple butter and macaroni and cheese were famous.

She loved roses, country music and back porch sitting. After fishing trips at the lake, Wanda was in charge of the fish fry.

Wanda Jo always had a home-cooked meal on the table and loved to play Wahoo and dominoes. In her later years, she enjoyed running around Edmond with her friends at garage sales and putting together puzzles.

She was especially fond of her dachshund, Lucky.

Born during the Great Depression, Wanda Jo was shaped into a strong, resourceful and faithful woman through God. She lived with an optimistic tenacity and grit.

She loved her children and grandchildren; her family was her pride and joy. Nothing was more special to her than providing an open home to her family and friends.

People will remember her fondly for her sassy sense of humor and honesty.

She is survived by her daughters Sue Willingham and her spouse, Jim, and Rhonda Sigl and her spouse, Larry; one sister, Frankie Adams; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie B. Vaughn; her daughter, Melinda Schoplein; her son, Steven Vaughn; her brother, Wayne Beasley; sister, Joyce Smith; brother, Loyd Beasley.

A private service for the family will be held at Kingfisher Cemetery.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Center of Family Love in Okarche, to Baptist Village of Oklahoma City or to the Low Rider Dachshund Rescue.
