‘Horns stay unbeaten against Medford
Dover worked inside and out Tuesday in its return to action.
The Longhorns made 8 3-pointers and more than their share of shots in the paint in a 71-27 victory over visiting Medford.
It was the first game in 20 days for the top-ranked team in Class B-II, but the Longhorns picked up where they left off before the holiday break by outscoring the Cardinals 18-5 in the first quarter.
The Longhorns picked up steam with a 23-5 burst in the second.
Three Dover players combined to make the treys and each one made at least one in each half.
Casen Buck made two in the first half and had 12 points at the break.
A.J. Avila and Kyler Williams made one each.
Avila added two more in the second half and scored 11.
Williams knocked down another as part of his 12.
Buck chipped in another trey in the third and scored 16.
Daxx Compton didn’t make any 3’s, but didn’t need to.
The sophomore did his damage inside the arc and also scored 16, half of which came in the first quarter.
Dover improved to 13-0 with the win.
Medford girls win big
Undefeated Medford lived up to its billing by downing the Lady Longhorns 58-27 in the opener.
The Lady Cardinals are ranked 10th in Class B-I and improved to 8-0. Dover dropped its sixth straight in falling to 3-10.
The visitors pounced early with a 19-5 run in the first quarter. They extended their lead to 37-10 by half.
Dover was led by Bella Perdue’s 7 points.
The Lady Longhorns also got 5 apiece from Dulce Gonzales and Remi Goodwin.
