Golfers this weekend will help put food on the table throughout the year.

The Kingfisher Golf Association will host its eighth annual Benefit Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Kingfisher Golf Course.

The 18-hole four-person scramble is set to tee off at 9 a.m.

Cost is $200 per team and the payout for winners comes in the form of gratifi cation.

That’s because 100 percent of the proceeds each year go to a charity selected by the golf association’s board.

The beneficiaries this year will be the Kingfisher County Food Bank and Kingfisher County Meals on Wheels.

Its the second year in a row the benefit has aimed to fight hunger in the area.

Last year, the association presented a $7,500 check to Jacket Food Pantry, which is housed at Kingfisher Public Schools.

“This year we wanted to widen the scope a little more,” said the golf course’s Gary Wilson. “The food bank serves a lot of families in our area and Meals on Wheels ensures our elderly and most vulnerable are fed.

“We knew they’d be good causes to support.”

Last year’s tournament raised more than $4,600 from the entry fees and other individual donations. On top of that, the KGA chipped in $1,650 and the Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association another $1,200.

To date, the benefit golf tournaments have raised more than $65,000 for various causes.

“It really is a great day,” said Wilson. “We come out, have fun, play 18 holes of golf and give to some great causes. Everybody wins.”
