Apparently a minor delay was all the Kingfisher boys soccer team needed.

The Jackets saw their home district game with Crossings Christian School postponed Wednesday with about 4 minutes remaining in the first half.

Thunderstorms were rolling in from the west, prompting officials to call off the contest and it wasn’t resumed until Thursday... and this time at Crossings’ home field.

The Jackets trailed 1-0 when the game was suspended, but got two late goals from Eduardo De La Torre on Thursday to pull off the 2-1 win.

That moved the Jackets to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in District 3A-2.

Crossings dropped to 4-4 and 1-2.

Elijah Click kept the Jackets in it with his goalkeeping and the offense came through in the waning minutes of the game.

De La Torre tied the game with his goal with about 10 minutes remaining.

He got the winner with around 3 minutes to go.

Jaime Rivera assisted on both goals.

De La Torre also scored Kingfisher’s only goal in Tuesday’s 5-1 loss at Mount St. Mary.

Click had 18 saves in that showdown.

KHS will host Harding Fine Arts Tuesday in a non-district game before heading to McLoud on Thursday in a district game.

The Jackets have five district games remaining.

A still-hobbled Kingfisher girls soccer team dropped its district opener Wednesday.

The Lady Jackets were downed 4-1 at home by Crossings Christian School in the first District 3A-2 contest for both teams.

It was Kingfisher’s second loss in as many nights as it was defeated 3-1 at home Tuesday by OKC Storm.

Jennings Broddle scored Kingfisher’s lone goal in that contest.

Maya Haney netted Kingfisher’s goal against CCS.

The Knights struck first and twice in the showdown.

They scored in the 14th minute and then 30 seconds later for a 2-0 lead.

Haney’s came with 17 minutes to play in the first half as Magaly Charqueño sent a pass up the middle for the asisst.

Haney outran the defenders and connected on her shot.

But the scoring ended there and CCS was able to punch in two insurance goals in the second half.

Yesenia Rivera recorded 9 saves in goal for KHS, which dropped to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in the district.

The Lady Jackets host Harding Fine Arts at 5 p.m. Tuesday and travel to McLoud on Thursday.
