A record-breaking round led Piedmont to the team title of Wednesday’s Kingfi sher Large-School Girls Invitational golf tournament.

Sophie Whittern carded an 8-under-par 64 to win medalist honors at Kingfisher Golf Course.

The junior’s round is the lowest in the tournament’s history.

Whittern led Piedmont to a 300 team score using the Maxwell system (which counts the team’s four lowest scores each hole as opposed to the four lowest rounds overall).

That edged Plainview by a single stroke while Perkins- Tryon was third with a 312.

Kingfisher finished 11th in the field of 16 with a 371 while Cashion was 15th with a 425.

Whittern had just one bogey in her round. That was countered by seven birdies and an eagle.

She had six birdies - including five straight from holes 11 through 15 - on the back-nine and then she eagled the first hole, which is a par-5 for females.

Whittern’s round won by seven strokes, but wasn’t the only one under-par.

Gabriella Gross of Heri-tage Hall and Gracie Bryant of Plainview each shot a 71. Gross got second on a scorecard playoff and Bryant was third.

Other medalists were Bethany’s Drew Jacobson, fourth with a 73, and Perkins-Tryon’s Ellie Aldridge, who was one stroke back and got fifth.

Addison Johnson and Layla Kroener led the Lady Jackets’ quartet.

Both fired off 89s while Ryan Scammahorn shot a 92.

Callie Blair turned in a 101 as she continues her first season of golf.

KHS shot 371 as a team. Kyndal Isom led Cashion’s four-person team with a 97 while Molly Mayes carded a 99.

Ashlynn Graham shot a 110 and Kamryn Isom a 119.

Cashion finished with a 425.
