Kingfisher’s Washington sweeps 100, 200 for 3rd straight meet

Kingfisher brought home a trio of gold medals last Friday from the Watonga High School Invitational track and field meet.

Two of those belonged to sprinter Maximus Washington.

The senior once again won the 100 and 200 meter dashes as he led KHS to a fourth place finish.

The Jackets scored 66 team points at the meet.

Luther won the team title with 107, three points more than runner-up Elk City.

Chisholm took third with 74.

Washington edged Watonga’s Joe Jackson in the 100 finals with a time of 11.82 seconds. Jackson crossed in 11.91.

In the 200, Washington beat Luther’s Quintin Richardson to the finish line.

Washington finished in 24.45 to Richardson’s 24.58.

Washington has won the 100 and 200 at all three meets in which Kingfisher has competed this year.

Also undefeated so far is high jumper Braxton Mecklenburg.

He won his third gold in the event by clearing 6 feet, 2 inches.

Luther’s Richardson was the runner-up at 6-0.

Junior Harrison Evans claimed silver for KHS in the shot put with a throw of 44-4.

The 800 relay took third to give Washington three medals on the day.

He was joined by Connor Hine, Cade Cooper and Kale Hart. The quartet finished in 1:37.66.

Hine was also third in the open 400.

Cashion took 13th in the team standings with 16 points.

Gage Bedick was third in the 800 while Boedy Beutler was fourth in both hurdle events.

Crescent was 16th overall with its five points.
