Not too shabby, Abbie
Myers scores 26, hits game winner in OT against Destiny Christian
Abbie Myers already had a fantastic night on the basketball court.
Her final play Friday night made it epic.
The Kingfisher senior drained a runner as time expired to lift the Lady Jackets to a thrilling 51-49 overtime victory over Destiny Christian at the APB.
The shot pushed Kingfi sher’s win streak to eight games while it snapped a streak of 19 consecutive wins for the visiting Lady Wildcats.
Destiny Christian was 21-1 entering the game, but faced a 36-28 deficit entering the fourth quarter.
After a modest 6 points in the first half, Myers had four field goals and scored 10 points in the third quarter to nudge KHS into a lead.
But Destiny Christian outscored its host 13-5 in the fourth as it got two 3-pointers from Zyah Thrash and 5 points from Katie Eischen.
However, neither team scored in the final 2:16 of regulation and the game made its way into the extra period.
Eischen put her team on top with a pair of free throws with 2:10 to play, but Myers scored back-toback buckets for a 47-45 KHS advantage.
Reese Roof’s free throws with 42.5 seconds to play gave Kingfisher a fourpoint lead.
Eischen cut it in half with two free throws of her own and a Kingfisher turnover eventually gave Destiny Christian the ball back.
It was Eischen again as she got the ball down low and tied the game with 11.2 seconds while being fouled.
However, with a chance to put her team in the lead, Eischen missed the free throw. The ball was eventually knocked out of bounds and KHS had to go the full length of the court in 6.2 seconds.
Roof threw the ball in to Ela Hartman, who then got it to Myers just before the half-court line. Myers went to work.
She took four dribbles as she powered toward Kingfi sher’s basket.
Myers then took two steps, the second one allowing her to take off just inside the free throw line.
She soared above a defender and released the shot as she was gliding to her left.
It went through the net as the buzzer sounded.
The winner gave her 26 points on the night.
Myers scored 20 in the second half and overtime, including 6 of Kingfisher’s 10 in the extra frame.
She also led the team with 8 rebounds.
Myers out-dueled Eischen, who scored 25 and pulled down 9 rebounds.
Roof added 8 points for KHS, which improved to 15-3.
Hartman scored 7 and had 4 assists while Mattie Slezickey provided 5 points and 4 steals.
