There were blown leads, clutch free throws, big shots, overtime, defensive stops and the game winner with no time on the clock.

And even a broken bone. The Kingfisher-Elgin girls basketball game seemingly had it all last Friday night.

And, for the Lady Jackets’ second time in as many trips to the conference foe down south, it came down to the wire.

Providing the heroics on this night was senior Reese Roof, who made her first free throw with no time on the clock to lift KHS to a 5251 overtime victory.

The win came despite Kingfisher letting an 11-point lead slip away after scoring only 1 point in the final 5:32 of regulation.

It also came despite not having a starter - and one of the two primary ball-handlers - for a large chunk of the game.

Ela Hartman left with just over 6:00 remaining in the third quarter when she and Elgin post player Kelby Carter tumbled to the floor.

Hartman landed face first with Carter’s weight on top of her and immediately grabbed at her nose.

She left the game and did not return as KHS nursed a narrow lead at the time of her departure.

The Lady Jackets were up 34-33 entering the fourth before exploding for a 10-0 run.

That included 3-pointers by Roof and Abbie Myers and layups by Taitym Walker and Lily Voth.

Voth’s bucket came on a fast break as she was fed by Myers, pump faked a defender and scored with 5:32 left for a 44-33 lead.

But that was also the team’s final bucket of regu-lation as Elgin crawled back into it.

Kynli Garrett and Carter combined for all 12 of Elgin’s points in the frame.

Carter made two free throws with 21.5 seconds left to tie the game at 45-45.

Kingfisher didn’t get a good look on the other end and the game headed to overtime.

Garrett kept the momentum on her team’s side when she put back her own miss just 12 seconds into the overtime period.

Myers tied the game with two free throws a few seconds later.

It remained tied until Walker scored underneath with 1:36 to play. Her bucket was set up by a Voth steal as Elgin was trying to feed Carter inside.

Voth added another steal later in the overtime.

After Elgin tied the game up again, Roof momentarily put Kingfisher back on top with a driving, off-balance bucket with 55 seconds to go.

Carter answered on the other end, tying the game back up with a putback with 40 seconds remaining. The Lady Jackets worked the ball until the final moments when Roof drove the left side and was bumped as she put up her shot.

With nobody standing around her due to time running off the clock, the senior calmly stepped up to the line and nailed her first attempt to end the game.

Roof finished with 15 points, 11 of which came in the second half and overtime.

The Lady Jackets led much of the first half as well.

Myers nailed two first-quarter treys as the Lady Jackets got out to a 13-9 advantage.

She had 10 at the half as the lead was 23-19.

The senior eventually finished with 20 points.

Garrett and Carter combined for 42 of their team’s points. Garrett led the way with 23, including four 3-pointers.

Kingfisher, which improved to 10-3, also got 6 points from Hartman before she was injured, 5 from Mattie Slezickey, 4 from Walker and 2 from Kendall Farrar.

As for Hartman, she was taken by her parents to a hospital Friday evening for observation.

She was fitted for a mask over the weekend and was practicing by Monday. Hartman was expected to play at Blanchard on Tuesday night, but her availability for this weekend’s Buckle of the Wheatbelt is in question.

According to her father, Chad Hartman, Ela was scheduled for a surgical procedure on Wednesday morning to reset her nose and also place her in a nasal cast for at least five days.

“We should have more information after the procedure on Wednesday,” her father said.
