Jackets pull away from Elgin in third quarter for easy road win
There was never any doubt.
But if there was, Kingfi sher put it to rest in the third quarter.
The Jackets broke open a tighter-than-expected game coming out of the half on Friday to pull away for a 63-43 win at Elgin.
The Owls entered with just two wins, but closed the first half strong to pull within single digits.
Kingfisher cranked it up out of the break with a 23-8 run to build a more suitable cushion.
The Jackets made half of their six 3-pointers in that quarter with Cash Laird, Hayes White and Croston Martin knocking down one apiece.
Laird finished the game with 18 points, 3 assists and 2 steals as Kingfisher improved to 10-3.
White led the team with 21.
He scored 11 in the first quarter as the Jackets built an 18-9 advantage.
It grew to 27-10 in the second quarter before Elgin scored the final 9 points of the half.
Laird scored 8 points in the third quarter and 12 in the second half.
The third also saw Arik Luke score all 4 of his points to go with his team-high 6 rebounds.
Michael Easley added 10 points for the Jackets, who won for the seventh time in eight games.
