Okarche dominates for 3rd straight; Cashion bounces back for consolation title

He’s got two state championships and an undefeated season under his belt.

Still, Aaron West appreciates significant steps during a season’s journey.

“It’s always great to be able to win the Three Rivers Conference Tournament,” said Okarche’s head coach.

And his team did just that on Saturday night… for the third straight season.

Top-seeded Okarche finished its steamroll through the bracket with a 99-59 victory over second- seeded Fairview in the title game at Watonga High School.

“There are certain things we’re looking for in games,” West said. “We had four players score in double figures and had 27 assists as a team. That speaks to a lot of unselfishness.”

And he also got another monster game from Jett Mueggenborg.

The senior capped his conference tournament career with a 40-point, 11-rebound, 9-assist night.

He made four of Okarche’s 14 3-pointers, as did fellow senior Easton Roby, who chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds.

Ethan Kirby nailed three treys as part of his 11 points while Brett Carnott scored 12 points.

Okarche led 42-28 at halftime, then managed to crank it up even more in the second half.

The Warriors scored 30 in the third quarter and extended their lead to 27 points.

The night was part of a three-day run in which Okarche averaged nearly 105 points and outscored its foes by an average of more than 59.

It started with Thursday’s 99-18 win over Woodward JV.

The Warriors then topped the century mark this season with a 116-59 win over Watonga in the semifinals. Okarche beat the Eagles 113-84 earlier this year.

In this matchup, Okarche had 76 points by halftime.

Mueggenborg poured in 38 in that win and also had 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

Kirby nailed five treys as part of his 30 points.

Court Sumrall and Roby scored 11 apiece while Colin Hendrickson chipped in 10.

After a disappointing loss to Minco in the quarterfinals, Cashion came back to win two straight and lay claim to the consolation championship trophy.

The Wildcats dispatched of Crescent 63-38 in that fifth-place game on Saturday.

After the teams played to a 12-12 tie in the first quarter, Cashion outscored Crescent 33-13 over the next two.

The Wildcats did it with balanced scoring.

Brian Nabavi and Brayden Stuemky accounted for all eight of the team’s 3-pointers.

Nabavi led the team with 16 points while Stuemky added 14.

Parker Mitchell chipped in another 14.

The Wildcats also made eight treys in Friday’s 6947 victory over Hennessey in the consolation semifi nals.

Senior Kyle Yowell drained four of them as part of his 18 points.

That led the team along with Mitchell, who also scored 18 and had 7 assists. Grayson Little scored 14.

Hennessey was led by Beau Vinson’s 19 points while Hagen Copeland and Joe Meraz scored 9 apiece.

Hennessey eventually finished seventh with Saturday’s 78-23 victory over Woodward JV.
