In the tenth week of the legislative session, we’re focused on committee work as we approach the deadline to advance House measures to the Senate floor.As Chair of the Public Safety Committee, we’ve reviewed dozens of bills up to this point that are now eligible for consideration by the full Senate.

Looking back on what happened in the election field in 2023 can give us a better sense of what to expect in next year’s presidential election.Some states have refused to take any steps to reform their elections. Those include ones with Democrat legislatures such as Hawaii, Nevada and California.

The weekly meeting of the Kingfisher County commissioners will have not one, but two new voices later this year.Ray Shimanek announced earlier this spring he wouldn’t seek re-election to his District 2 post.

Kingfisher County is going to have four new faces filling prominent seats next year.None of the incumbents threw their respective names in the hat last week during the filing period for the offices of county sheriff, clerk, court clerk or commissioner for District 2.

When they were teenagers making their way through Kingfisher High School, Bausten Jech and Dalton Buck spent countless hours at the Shaw Park tennis courts.They were not only honing their skills as a doubles team for KHS tennis, but also developing a bond of friendship.

HONORING SERVICE – Two people were recognized Monday during the Kingfisher City Commission meeting for their service to the community. On the left is Mayor Geoff Covalt presenting a gift to Kaci Farrar, whose term as a city commissioner came to a close.

Jeneva Nelson was unanimously hired as the 202425 Hennessey High School head softball coach and as a language arts teacher.Hennessey’s Board of Education members took the action during their noon meeting Monday, April 8. (Note: future board meetings will held at the usual time of 7 p.m.

Two Kingfisher High School seniors were guests recently at a meeting of the Kingfisher Rotary Club.Joining the local civic group were Maci Meyer and Addyson O’Dell.Meyer is the daughter of Misty Meyer and Mike Meyer.

Keynun and Keylun Combs, juniors at Kingfi sher High School paged for Rep. Denise Crosswhite Hader, R-Piedmont, Feb. 26-29.Both are involved in FFA. The two are the sons of former Rep. Tom and Erin Newell as well as Chris and Jamie Combs.
