The following traffic accident is being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department: April 2, 12:30 p.m. - At U.S. 81 and S.H. 33. Edward Evey, 63, Kingfisher, driving a 2009 school bus, was eastbound in the inside lane of S.H. 33 and stopped at the traffic light of U.S. 81 intersection.

Kingfisher County received a rebate of $23,325.64 from its worker’s compensation insurance, an item on the county commissioners’ meeting agenda Monday related. Chairman Heath Dobrovolny said the rebate came because of zero worker’s compensation claims for the 2017-18 policy year.

Eight Okarche students received state medals in seven events during the OSSAA State Speech Tournament held April 7 through 10. This year’s tournament was “virtual” with students submitting videos of their qualifying performances. Okarche had a strong showing from members of its junior class.

The Kingfisher Police Department has investigated or responded to the following reports: March 30 - Malicious injury/destruction of property. Officer Dillon Chaloupek was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of South Sixth Street in regard to property damage.

The following traffic accidents are being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department: April 6, 3:30 p.m. - At S.H. 33 and 13th Street. A 17-year-old male, Hennessey, driving a 2015 Toyota Camry, was southbound on North 13th Street and stopped at the intersection of S.H. 33.

The Town of Hennessey’s annual Spring Clean-up is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Use of the transfer station/dump site on Cemetery road will be free to all county residents during those hours.

Kingfisher voters will choose between civil engineer Geoff Covalt and assisted living center administrator Kaci Farrar as their new city commissioner in a runoff election Sept. 14.

Former principal and assistant superintendent Terry Payne will return to Kingfisher Public Schools in a new role next month when he is officially seated on the school board. Payne carried 443 (64.02%) of the total 692 votes cast in Tuesday night’s school board election to 249 (35.

For at least the second time in the history of Dover Public School, a school board election ballot included a candidate who died after filing for office. And for the second time, the deceased candidate could end up the election winner.

Three teachers and a longtime secretary tendered resignations during last Monday’s Kingfisher Board of Education meeting. Board members also were able to fill a trio of vacant positions at the April regular meeting.
