Insurance agents Justin and Blake Stephenson told the story of how they both came to move their young families here and also presented a synopsis of their insurance practice history at the Kingfisher Lions Club meeting last week.

One hundred thirty-seven Southwestern Oklahoma State University students were recently honored for their academic achievements and service. Among them were Kalie Brooke Choate of Hennessey and Victoria Ashtyn Thompson of Kingfisher.

Dover baseball’s team is hosting a fundraiser later this week. A taco dinner will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at the school cafeteria. Donations will be accepted as cost of the dinner.

Kingfisher fourth graders who take part in the 21st Century Community Learning Center STARS program can now consider themselves published authors. Students who are in the after-school program at Kingfisher wrote their own original stories using Write Brain Books.

Kingfisher High School seniors Diego Olivares, Coltyn Young, Brianda Cardenas and Sarah Sanders were guests at a recent meeting of the Kingfisher Rotary Club. Olivares is the son of Claudia Rodriguez. He is active in photography, horticulture and cross country.

The Kingfisher Police Department has investigated or responded to the following reports: February 22 - Domestic abuse, assault and battery. Officer Dillon Chaloupek responded to a report of a domestic altercation in the 1300 block of South 12th Street.

Students at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Okarche recently spent a week raising money for Sister BJ’s Pantry during Catholic Schools Week. Modeled after The Corporal works of Mercy, Sister BJ’s Pantry is named for Sister Barbara Joseph and helps the homeless in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma’s deer gun hunting season will not be lengthened, but instead will remain 16 days long following the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission’s approval of administrative rules during its regular meeting earlier this month.

While the $16.5 million price tag is intimidating at first glance, Dover Supt. Max Thomas said most of the cost of a proposed new elementary school will be borne by industry, rather than individual property owners.
