EPIC Charter School has announced 438 EPIC students from across the state will be inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). Among those inducted into the NHS was Emily Sanders of Kingfisher.

A number of events were held in Kingfisher earlier this month to commemorate National Day of Prayer. Among them was a women’s luncheon held May 2 at First Baptist Church. Shauna Rupp and Dovey Thomas performed the praise and worship. The call to prayer was presented by Pastor Debbie Burpo.

Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a bill last week that will exempt the American Legion Department of Oklahoma from sales tax.House Majority Leader Mike Sanders, R-Kingfisher, and Sen. Roger Thompson, R-Okemah, are authors of House Bill 1003. The measure previously passed unanimously in the House and Senate.

POPPY PATROL — Kingfisher American Legion Auxiliary is selling handmade poppies in the coming weeks for residents to wear on May 24 for National Poppy Day, which recognizes American soldiers killed in battle.

Kingfisher High School seniors Jenna Johnson and Rob Gruntmeir were recently announced as the Junior Lions for May 2019. Johnson is the daughter of David and Jerilyn Johnson.

After a two-round process, members for the first Oklahoma Agriculture  Youth Council have been chosen and will begin their year of service in July.

Governor Kevin Stitt last Wednesday amended an executive order declaring a State of Emergency to include 14 additional counties impacted by the latest round of severe weather that began April 30.
