The Okarche speech team brought home the sweepstakes trophy in Class 3A from the Okeene High School Invitational.   Held Jan. 25-26, the tournament hosted contestants from eight 3A schools.

Choate Oilfield Services won both the People’s Choice and Cook’s Choice awards at the Hennessey Friends of the Library’s annual Chili Cookoff Saturday night at the high school cafeteria. Choate had two cooks in the competition: Logan Long and Matt Hosley.

Nearly 240 Bethany College students have earned semester honors for their academic performance during the fall 2018 semester and have been named to the Dean’s List. ›  › To qualify for the academic honor, students must be enrolled full-time and earn a semester grade point average of 3.5.

The Hennessey Board of Trustees took no action, and made no comments, on a water settlement with the Merritt family after spending 90 minutes in closed session with their attorney last Thursday.

All three Kingfisher County commissioners declared equipment items for surplus designation at Monday’s weekly meeting. Approval cleared the way for the equipment, most of it older, to be included in the Circuit Engineering District 8 auction in March at Elk City.

January sales tax checks were higher for three county towns and down for three others. Hennessey, Dover and Loyal showed gains while Kingfisher, Okarche and Cashion had decreases in comparison with the January 2018 distribution.

The Kingfisher Police Department has investigated or responded to the following reports: Jan. 6, 2:30 p.m. — Malicious injury to property; stolen credit card information.

Kingfisher Chief of Police Dennis Baker announced several promotions in his department in the wake of the retirement of longtime assistant chief Jeff Townsend. David Catron was promoted from lieutenant to captain and serves as the new assistant police chief.
