Dover scored eight unanswered runs on Saturday to claim its second tournament title of the season.

After falling behind, the Longhorns rallied for an 8-3 victory over Class 2A’s Oklahoma Christian Academy in the championship game of the Mulhall-Orlando Tournament.

The game was indicative of the Longhorns’ week.

It started with a pair of losses to 2A No. 2 Dale (62) and Class B No. 1 Fort Cobb-Broxton (9-1) in the Calumet Fall Festival.

After starting the season 11-0, those were the Longhorns’ second and third losses in a four-game stretch.

After the loss to the Mustangs on Tuesday, Dover, ranked third in Class B, returned to the diamond two days later to thump Santa Fe South 12-0 in the tournament’s quarterfinal round.

They followed it up Friday with a 6-5 victory against Glencoe in the semifinals, the team they beat 3-1 in the finals of the Chad Speer Classic two weeks prior.

This time around, Dover fell behind 3-0 after the first inning and was down 3-1 before scoring five runs in the fourth inning.

All five runs were with two outs as Casen Buck tied the game with a two-run single and then Trypp Lack delivered a three-run triple.

The Panthers scored a run in both the fourth and sixth innings to pull within one and then led off the seventh with a double to get the tying run on base.

But Buck got a pop out and two strikeouts to earn the save.

He relieved Brok Cooper, who threw 5 2/3 innings of relief work and kept Dover in it.

Cooper struck out nine batters while allowing five hits. Neither of the two runs he surrendered was earned.

Buck and Sadler Greb both had two hits on offense.

Greb had Dover’s only other RBI in the game outside of the big hits from Buck and Lack that produced runs.

Buck got the ball against the Eagles in the title tilt.

They were able to get to him for a run in the third and two more in the fourth.

Meanwhile, Connor Cramer hushed the Dover bats through four innings.

That stopped in the fifth…and quickly.

Daxx Compton led off the frame with a home run, the first of five runs in the inning off of Cramer before he was relieved without recording an out.

Two batters after Compton, Cooper’s single scored Buck.

Cooper then tied the game on Lack’s RBI double.

Sloan Merrill drove in Lack with his single to put Dover up 4-3 and Greb later added a sacrifice fly to score a run.

Merrill also had an RBI single in the sixth, which was part of a three-run inning for Dover.

The Longhorns pounded out 11 hits in the game, two each by Lack, Merrill, Ivan Ruiz, Greb and Compton.

The win improved Dover to 15-3 on the season. It was also Dover’s ninth consecutive game against a ranked opponent.
