Okarche nearly pulled off an improbable run to the Cimarron Fall Classic championship.

A marathon run came up just short, however, as the Lady Warriors fell 2-1 to perennial power Leedey in Saturday’s championship game.

The contest was the fourth game of the day for Okarche, which had defeated Dover, Kremlin-Hillsdale and Waukomis en route to the matchup with the Bison.

It was also the third straight game in the circle for Lawson Geheb, who fought through triple-digit temperatures and managed to keep the Bison bats quiet much of the game.

The game was tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning when, with two outs, a pair of Okarche errors allowed Leedey to score the walkoff run.

Errors led to all the runs in the game.

Okarche took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Katie Parham reached on an error and advanced all the way to third. She scored on a passed ball.

A single followed by an Okarche error allowed Leedey to tie it up in the bottom of that inning.

Geheb gave up five hits and struck out eight in the game.

But Okarche couldn’t solve Saidi Gore of Leedey, who only surrendered three hits and struck out 12.

Leedey is ranked fifth in Class B and also the defending state champ in that class.

Okarche opened the tournament on Thursday with a win over Cimarron, but lost 4-2 to Waukomis later that night.

The Lady Warriors avenged that defeat with a 6-5 win against Waukomis on Saturday to earn the shot at Leedey.

Okarche led 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but three hits and an error saw Waukomis pull within a run without an out.

But Geheb settled back down to coax a groundout, then struck out the last two batters to secure the win.

Down 2-0, Okarche tied it up on Geheb’s two-run double in the third. Emma Roby later added an RBI single in the inning as Okarche took the lead for good.

Roby wasn’t done as her double in the fifth scored two more runs for a 5-2 advantage.

She added insurance which proved to be needed - with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning.

Roby was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs in the game.

Kinely Pruett also went 3 for 4 while Geheb had two hits and 2 RBIs.

Geheb gave up 10 hits, three earned runs and struck out six in the complete- game effort.

She also pitched all five innings in her team’s second win of the day, which was 7-4 over Kremlin-Hillsdale.

She allowed only two hits and struck out nine. None of the K-H runs was earned.

Callie Cramer was 3 for 3 and drove in two runs in the game.

Parham and Pruett both had two hits and combined for three runs.

Okarche started the day with an 11-1 run rule victory over Dover.

Charlie Petty threw all three innings and gave up four hits while striking out three.

Cramer had 4 RBIs and Parham scored 3 runs.

Pruett and Avery Treece both had two hits. Treece recorded 3 RBIs while Pruett drove in two and scored three times.

Okarche was 18-8 at the conclusion of the tournament.
