The Okarche road to state was long and winding a year ago.The Lady Warriors - thus far - are taking a much shorter route.They find themselves one win shy of getting back to Oklahoma City after surviving No. 12 Mooreland 41-38 in a Class A regional championship game Saturday at home.

The top-ranked team in Class A will very likely be tested in the playoffs.It just hasn’t happened yet.The latest blowout victim was No. 17 Arapaho- Butler, which was demolished 90-33 in a regional championship Saturday in Okarche.

Longhorns are regional champions

Dover’s trademark swarming defense has the Longhorns within one win of another trip to the state tournament.The Longhorns held Cimarron to one field goal in the first half and turned it into a 55-28 victory in their Class B-II regional championship clash in Dover.

Myers reaches 1,000 in fifinal home game

In the last game she’ll ever play in her home gym, Abbie Myers made her final bucket a big one.It didn’t win a game for Kingfisher as the Lady Jackets cruised to a 54-19 victory against Cushing in a Class 4A district championship game on Saturday.

Jackets shrug off slow start for district title

If there was any urgency in the Kingfisher boys basketball team, it didn’t show up early on Saturday.It did, however, show up in plenty of time as the Jackets recovered to beat Cushing 67-51 in a Class 4A district championship.

As his team was preparing to depart for the Class 3A west regional, Kingfisher High School wrestling coach Steven Wilson said he was hopeful four Yellowjackets would qualify for the state tournament.

Cashion’s Martinez, Browning making return trips to state

It’s nothing new for Carlos Martinez to qualify for state.It is for him to go in as a regional champ.The Cashion junior accomplished that on Saturday when he pinned Prague’s Rylan Harvey in the first period of their 175-pound championship at the Class 3A west regional in Watonga.

About seven or eight years ago, Barry Schwarz was in a random gym as his son was getting ready to play a youth basketball game.As the game was about to begin, Schwarz noticed some familiar faces in the crowd for the opposing team.They were from his hometown of Okarche.

Casen Buck lit up Oilton for 24 points Tuesday as No. 1 Dover rolled to an 80-37 win in a Class B-II regional semifinal.The Longhorns will host No. 19 Cimarron at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for the regional championship as they continue their quest for back-to-back state tournament appearances.
