Single Stroke Decides State Title

Kingfisher picked up one state championship Thursday and just missed out on another. The KHS girls golf team finished as the Class 4A state runner-up after Hilldale won a two-hole playoff at Cushing’s Buffalo Rock Golf & Venue.

Cashion, Crescent in as teams; Hill, Burnham qualify for KHS

It wasn’t sealed until the final scores were reported, but Kingfisher High School has two boys golfers headed to state. Blake Hill shot a 150 and Tristun Burnham a 152 over 36 holes Monday during a Class 4A regional at Kingfisher Golf Course.

Farrell, Watkins state-bound

Mia Farrell and Sydney Watkins are state-bound. Kingfisher’s No. 1 doubles team took third place Monday in the Class 4A regional tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center. The duo locked up their state bid when they defeated Chisholm 6-2, 6-0 in a consolation bracket match.

Regional track and field results

Following are results from regional track and field meets involving area teams. Athletes who scored points for their respective teams are listed. Those who placed in the top-three automatically qualified for state.

Hallie Barton medaled in four events and - for the first time ever - every Lomega boys and girls relay team has qualified for the state track and field meet. Barton was the champ in the 100 meter dash at last weekend’s Class A regional meet in Okemah.

Personal records and even school records were achieved last Saturday by the Kingfisher High School track and field teams. Both the KHS boys and girls took third in the team standings at the Class 4A regional meet in Plainview.

Boring isn’t enticing to Kase Simon. That’s why the pole vault – something he’d never before tried – was right up his alley. “I knew it was my last year and I wanted to try something new and exciting,” said Simon, a senior at Kingfisher High School.

Ian Daugherty was already batting over .400 for his senior season. Thursday’s performance made that average even shinier. The senior had seven hits and 9 RBIs in two games as Kingfisher swept Bridge Creek in a Class 4A bi-district baseball series at Homier Field.
