Both of Kingfisher’s girls doubles teams earned medals Thursday in the Hub City Tennis Tournament in Clinton. The No. 1 team of Mia Farrell and Sydney Watkins (top photo) took second place in their bracket while the No. 2 squad of Hope Stafford and Gentry Taylor (bottom photo) took third.

On just her second hole of the day, Katey Brickman sailed her drive from the No. 4 tee box to the right and out of bounds at Kingfisher Golf Course. However, Brickman didn’t let that dictate the rest of her day.

Watkins takes 2nd at USTA event

Kingfisher’s Sydney Watkins went 3-1 last weekend to capture the runner-up trophy at the Oakwood Spring Classic tennis tournament in Enid. Watkins was defeated 4-1, 4-0 in the championship match of the United States Tennis Association event’s 16-under division.

Kingfisher’s Burnham 2nd at conference golf

All the golfers battled a rugged south wind Monday during the Western Athletic Conference Golf Tournament. Tristun Burnham did it just about as good as anyone. Burnham shot a 3-overpar 75 at Lake Hefner Golf Club’s North Course to finish as the conference runner-up.

Wilson, Cortes, Stone garner Tulsa World All-State selections

Three Kingfisher County basketball players are among the top-15 players in the state regardless of class, according to the Tulsa World. Lomega’s Adysen Wilson was named to the newspaper’s girls All-State team while Kingfisher’s Matthew Stone and Bijan Cortes were selections for the boys.

Cashion, Crescent advance out of 2A boys golf qualifier

Cashion and Crescent have advanced to the second stage of the Class 2A golf playoffs. The two were among seven teams Monday to advance to a regional tournament during a qualifier held at Kingfisher Golf Course. Cashion shot 345 as a team and Crescent 355 to place second and third, respectively.

Who’s the best? Tulsa World says KHS

Who has the best team in all the land? It’s an annual debate that’s rarely settled unless one team is clearly head and shoulders above everyone else. The 2021 basketball season was no exception. Proof? The Class 6A champ lost to the Class 4A runner-up. The 6A runner-up beat the 4A champion.

Snodgrass, Mecklenburg have big days for KMS track teams

Scout Snodgrass and Matthew Mecklenburg won three gold medals apiece for Kingfisher during last Saturday’s Watonga High School and Junior High Track & Field Meet. Snodgrass medaled four times overall as the KMS girls took third place as a team with 89 points. She won the 400 meter run in 1:04.
