Duffy, Wilson are OGBCA All-State

Kingfisher County will have a pair of representatives at this year’s Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State games. Both are from Lomega. Emma Duffy and Adysen Wilson were named to the Small West when the teams were announced last week.

Stevens medalist at Meadowlake

Crescent’s Dominic Stevens was the medalist and Kingfisher had two golfers finish in the top-10 Tuesday at the Pioneer Invitational. Stevens fired a 4-overpar 75 to take first place in the event at Enid’s Meadowlake Golf Course. Kingfisher didn’t field a full team for the event.

The Kingfisher boys got a pair of hat tricks and a blowout win Tuesday to begin district soccer play. Alan Muñoz completed his hat trick - plus some - in the first half and Aaron DeLaTorre picked up his third goal in the second half as the Jackets rolled past visiting Corde1113-3.

Kingfisher pitchers combined to strike out 18 batters Tuesday as the Jackets got their second district sweep of the season. After a Monday rainout, KHS defeated McLoud 7-2 in both games of a double-header at Homier Field.

For the second time in the past three weeks, Southwestern Oklahoma State baseball has had a player honored as the Great American Conference Pitcher of the Week after Matt Hopkins earned the award on Monday. Hopkins, a Kingfisher High School product, is in his first year with the Bulldogs.

The fourth quarter belonged to Bijan Cortes and the Kingfisher Yellowjackets. And they needed it. Kingfisher took over down the stretch to hold off a stingy and upset-minded Blanchard squad 46-34 in the Class 4A quarterfinals at State Fair Arena.
