A cancellation by its original opponent helped lead to one of Kingfisher’s signature wins of the season. In a tantalizing matchup last Friday night, Class 4A’s top-ranked Yellowjackets defeated Class 5A #1 Carl Albert 56-47 in Oklahoma City.

First in Class 4A state would have been nice, but given everything the Kingfisher High School cheer squad went through to even get to Saturday’s competition, third place is still pretty sweet. “We’re definitely proud of how far we’ve come since June,” cheer coach Carma Reagan said.

Blanchard definitely tried something different. And it definitely didn’t work. Kingfisher battered another Western Athletic Conference foe Tuesday night as it beat the Lions 91-50 on the road. However, it wasn’t your typical blowout. “I....,” started Kingfisher coach Jared Reese.

Austin Frazier buried three of Cashion’s 11 3-pointers to lead the Wildcats to a 60-40 victory against Perry in the opening round of the Cashion County Line Tournament. Frazier helped Cashion to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter and the Maroons were never able to mount a comeback.

It was another scoring barrage for the Lomega Lady Raiders. Class B’s top-ranked team blitzed Ringwood 111-34 on Lomega’s senior night. Lomega had 99 points by the end of the third quarter. Senior Emma Duffy had a huge night as she poured in 30 points.

COVID-19 affected the Buckle of Wheatbelt Invitational before it began and even after the fact, but it couldn’t stop it. Yukon’s girls dropped out of the event on Tuesday due to quarantine protocols, forcing the addition of a JV team and some bracket shuffling.

Kingfisher’s basketball season is hitting the home stretch and this season that means a plethora of games at the APB over the next two months. Kingfisher Public Schools officials want to remind patrons of the protocols in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
