The OSSAA recently announced district assignments for fall baseball and the two smallest classes in fastpitch softball. District tournaments can begin this week and must be completed by Saturday, Sept. 26, in both sports.

Another disappointing district loss befell the Kingfisher softball team, but this time in dramatic fashion. With her team trailing, Blackwell’s Raegan Moore slapped a two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Lady Maroons past KHS, 2-1.

When Matthew Stone was younger and headed to basketball tournaments in Dallas, he was always curious about the college campus that sat at the I-35 split in Denton. Little did he know then, but that school was the focal point of Stone’s announcement last week.

Kingfisher’s seventh grade football team grabbed its first win of the season last Thursday. The Jackets pitched a shutout on the road to beat Perry 20-0. The Jhett Birdwell to Jackson Willbanks connection proved to be a valuable one for the Jackets.

Weather put an end to the Highway 81 Classic softball tournament Kingfisher was to take part in last weekend. But it didn’t completely keep KHS off the diamond. The Lady Jackets squeezed in wins over Tonkawa and Laverne at Chisholm ahead of a busy week.

Gutsy or dumb. The distinction is often a fine line for coaches and while the truth lies closer to the former, the outside opinion is sometimes shaped by a single play. Turns out Crescent’s J.L. Fisher is gutsy this week.

Life continues to be good in Cashion. The Wildcats dominated fellow Class A top-10 foe Minco 47-0 on the road last Friday night to earn its third blowout victory of the season. Along the way, quarterback Ben Harman threw for 347 yards and two touchdowns.

Kingfisher’s softball team went toe-to-toe with one of the state’s best Monday before coming up just short. Newcastle plated a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning to earn a 2-0 victory over the visiting Lady Jackets in a District 4A-1 contest.

Maddi Kamas caught fire down the stretch to turn the Battle for Broken Arrow into a battle for second place. The Kingfisher High School senior birdied three of her final four holes at The Club at Indian Springs Sunday to win the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour Event.

The Kingfisher coaching staff had a lot more of them at their disposal than Chisholm last Friday night. The result was a 45-8 home victory for the Jackets in their final non-district game.
