Football season is just over a week away for some of the state’s teams and this week will be the first and only scrimmage action those teams will see. All four local football schools are scheduled to have their first scrimmages of 2020 this week.

The annual Highway 33 Classic softball tournament in Kingfisher will take on a new format this year, but will still crown a champion when its finished. The three-day tournament begins Thursday and will feature games on both of Kingfisher’s fields throughout.

The latest round of Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings has seen the Maddi Kamas star continue to brighten on the national scale. The Kingfisher High School senior was tabbed 37th in the nation when the rankings were released Monday.

Six games. Four-hundred-fifty-four pitches. That’s what the Kingfisher High School softball team - and pitching staff - managed Saturday while nearly pulling off an improbable tournament championship.

Following is the Crescent Public School staff for the 2020-21 school year. Crescent’s first day is scheduled to be Tuesday, Aug. 18: Superintendent - Bart Watkins Elementary and middle school Wayne Owens - Principal T.J.

A retirement just before school started caused some shuffling of the Kingfisher Public Schools staff just before its first day of 2020- 21. Dianna Weems informed administrators last Monday that she was retiring.

One strike. That’s what separated Kingfisher from a potential sweep Tuesday in its District 4A-1 doubleheader against visiting Bethany. Unfortunately for the Lady Jackets, Lillie Mathers wouldn’t fall prey to that final strike.

Senior Olivia Wilcox drove in three runs and struck out 10 batters Monday as high school sports returned to Oklahoma for the first time since March. Wilcox led Kingfisher to a 14-3 win at McLoud in the softball season opener.

Jacob Woody will be playing his college basketball close to home. Woody last Friday signed to play at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany. A 2020 Cashion High School graduate, Woody helped guide the Wildcats to the Class 2A state tournament as a senior.

“Back” is a fitting word when referring to the 2020 Kingfisher Golf Association Club Championship. Despite battling nagging back issues, especially on Day 2, Heath Myers laid claim to this year’s title with a relatively comfortable five-stroke victory.
