‘Team effort’ helps Lady Jackets down Storm

Gerrett Spears got the kind of group effort he was hoping for in his team’s final regular season game. The Kingfisher Lady Yellowjackets held off the Oklahoma City Storm 55-42 Monday night at the APB to cap the regular season on Senior Night.

Cashion downs Dale to end epic stretch

If not for Crossings Christian, the Cashion boys basketball team might very well be looking at a perfect record this basketball season. But, Cashion battled CCS twice this season, including last Friday as part of a brutal eight-day stretch in which the Wildcats played five games.

Okarche dominates Moss in district

Even with 22 wins on their resume, scoring hadn’t always come easy for the Okarche Lady Warriors. That wasn’t the case in their district championship. Okarche scored early, often and at will Saturday in handing visiting Moss an 88-34 defeat in their Class A matchup.

Wrestlers vie for state spots this weekend

Kingfisher and Cashion will send wrestlers to regional tournaments this weekend with hopes of being able to qualify for state. Regionals for all classifications are Friday and Saturday. Kingfisher will compete in a 4A regional at Tuttle. Cashion will be taking part in the 3A regional at Geary.

Lady Raiders light up scoreboard in district

Not too many girls basketball programs can say they gave up 17 points in the first quarter of a game…and still led by 20. Of course, Lomega isn’t your ordinary program.

Perfection achieved...so far

As the Kingfisher coaches sat in their office late Monday night, you’d hardly know their team just made more history. That’s what happens when a team allows 31 points in the fourth quarter and nearly surrenders a 27-point lead.

Basketball playoffs beginning

Three local schools began their basketball playoff quests last weekend and the remainder of the Kingfisher County-area teams join the fray this week. That includes Kingfisher High School, which wrapped up its regular season Monday with a home sweep of Oklahoma City Storm (See story on Page 6).

Crescent wins TRC; Battelo hits 1,000

Crescent standout Elizabeth Battelo saw limited action Tuesday, but still reached a career milestone. The junior point guard scored five points before “tweaking” her knee in the first half at Calumet.
