Comeback falls short for KHS

Kingfisher had yet another furious comeback fall just short against a quality foe last week. Trailing by 10 in the second half and by nine in the fourth quarter, the Lady Jackets rallied to lead 2A’s ifth-ranked Dale before eventually falling 51-48.

WRESTLING Long 2nd, Hawk 3rd at Hub City

Sophomore Isaac Long continued his strong tournament showing for the Kingfisher High School wrestling team. Long was the top placer for the Jackets at last weekend’s Hub City Classic in Clinton. The 138-pounder took runner-up in his division and helped KHS to an eighth-place finish.

Seeing triple...double

One of the best teams in Class 2A was absolutely no match for the one ranked atop 4A. Kingfisher flexed some muscle last Friday as it dominated 2A’s second-ranked Pirates 69-33 on the road.

OSSAA announces Class A & B basketball playoff assignments

The OSSAA last week announced basketball playoff assignments for Classes A and B. In Kingfisher County, those assignments affected Okarche, Dover and Lomega. In Class A, Okarche will host a district tournament, but will head southeast for the remainder of the playoffs.

Crescent stuns Lady Warriors in TRC road game

Crescent denied Okarche’s bid for an unbeaten record in Three Rivers Conference games. The Lady Tigers went on the road Tuesday and handed Okarche a 38-35 defeat. The loss dropped Okarche to 5-1 in conference games with one more still to play (at Cashion on Feb. 11).

Lafferty earns XC honor from NFHS

Kingfisher High School’s Kerri Lafferty is still raking in honors for the 2018 cross country season. It was announced last month that Lafferty was named the 2018-19 Oklahoma Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools Coaches Association.

Royal night for KHS wrestling

The Kingfisher High School wrestling program squeezed a lot into two hours Tuesday at the APB. Seniors were honored, the homecoming captain and queen were announced, they honored assistant coach Stan Blundell on his 50th birthday and junior high and high school duals were contested.

KGSA promising renewed focus in 2020

Starla Wittrock has been helping coach junior high softball at Kingfisher for three years now. Once she started, it didn’t take her long to realize the softball players coming into the program weren’t fundamentally ready to compete at a higher level.

Longhorns take 7th at Skeltur

Dover salvaged a seventh-place finish in the Skeltur Conference Tournament. The Longhorns got 31 points from Joriaun Caldwell as they defeated Cimarron 54-48 at the Stride Center in Enid.

Trio named OCA All-State in football

Three Kingfisher County football players have earned one of the top honors for prep players in the state. Cashion’s Ryan Baker and Kingfisher’s Wes Hine and Riley Myers were selected to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State team, it was announced Monday.
