KHS golfers win 3rd straight Hennessey title

The championship trophy of the Hennessey High School Boys Golf Invitational will once again reside in Kingfisher. The Yellowjackets torched the field Wednesday to win the tournament held at Turkey Creek Golf Course by 50 strokes.

Kamas battles emotions to win

Maddi Kamas was trying to think of birdies, but couldn’t keep her mind off her dog. As tough as it was, the Kingfisher High School sophomore fought through the Oklahoma wind, a solid field of golfers and even a few tears to put together perhaps her best round of the season.

County trio are OCA All-State

Trey Green and Jett Sternberger will get to be basketball teammates at least one more time. The Kingfisher High School seniors were among those selected Wednesday to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State basketball team.

Daugherty blanks Racers for another district victory

After Ian Daugherty was able to pitch himself out of a jam, Kingfisher’s bats finally came alive. The result was the seventh straight win for the Yellowjacket baseball team Monday as it improved to 5-0 in District 4A-2 with an 8-0 win against Newcastle at Homier Field.

KHS bats heat up at incomplete I-40 Classic

Kingfisher’s bats were nearly unstoppable at last weekend’s I-40 Classic, but got little more than wins to show for it. KHS went unbeaten in pool play as it picked up wins against Clinton and Elk City on Thursday and then Leedey and Shattuck on Friday.

Lady Jacket golfers 2nd at Elk City

Audra Smalley can noticeably see the improvement in her girls golf team and expects more to be on the way. Kingfisher High School placed second Monday at the Patsy Poole Invitational in Elk City. The team’s 378 was 16 strokes better than its previous tournament in Oklahoma City.

Kingfisher hosting Edward Jones Invitational baseball

Kingfisher’s Homier Field will be the host site for one-half of the Edward Jones Invitational baseball tournament to be played Thursday-Saturday. The Jackets are a part of Pool A and have one game Thursday and two Friday before matching up with a team from Pool B on Saturday.

Jay Wood voted into OGBCA Hall of Fame

Jay Wood has been selected for one of the top honors in his profession. The former Kingfisher High School girls basketball coach will be inducted into the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, it was announced last week after the general meeting of the OGBCA.
