Stephensons soar at Watonga

Ally Stephenson didn’t get a gold medal at the Watonga Invitational Track and Field Meet, but she did get a school record. The Kingfisher High School freshman was out-dueled by Cashion standout Madelyn McCabe in the high jump last Friday and had to settle for silver.

Spears handed reins of KHS girls basketball

Gerrett Spears has in his coaching arsenal a “ladder to mastery” that he uses to build up his teams. The Kingfisher High School girls basketball team will soon begin climbing that ladder.

Jackets take 2nd at CVC tourney

Peyton Burns earned all-conference honors and the Kingfisher High School boys team placed second Wednesday in their season debut. KHS shot a 342 at Purcell’s Brent Bruehl Memorial Golf Course in the Canadian Valley Conference Tournament.

KHS girls win PCI on state course

Kingfisher’s girls golf team got a preview of the state tournament course they hope to be playing in May…and earned some hardware in the process. The Lady Jackets on Wednesday shot a 394 to win the Putnam City Invitational at Hefner South Golf Course in Oklahoma City.

Alva no match for Jackets on pitch

Kingfisher got a head start - literally - in the District 4A-2 soccer race. The Lady Jackets shut out Alva 10-0 at home Tuesday to open district play and the scoring got started with a header from senior Maitland Pickle.

There was something familiar and something new Wednesday night when Three Rivers Conference basketball coaches voted on postseason honors. Crescent’s Elizabeth Battelo was voted the girls most valuable player and Hennessey’s Angel Rodriguez garnered the honor for the boys for the 2018-19 season.

Change is in the air for Hennessey High School football…in more ways than one. “We’re going to have the fastest moving offense,” new HHS head football coach and athletic director Paul Hix told his up and coming players Wednesday. “It will feel like basketball.

Hennessey Hires New Football Coach

Fifteen minutes after Paul Hix was hired as Hennessey’s head football coach and athletic director for the remainder of this year and next year, he met about 30 of his future players. Their smiles widened when the coach said they’d see “how high the scoreboard can go” next season.

Taylor is new Cashion girls basketball coach

Cashion didn’t go far to find its next girls basketball coach. In fact, it just moved one spot down the bench. Andrea Taylor was promoted from assistant coach to head coach of the Cash-ion girls program Monday morning, it was announced by Superintendent Sammy Jackson.

High school team heads west, junior high here this weekend

Kingfisher baseball returns to action Thursday in the I-40 Classic. The Jackets are a part of Pool B, which will play its games in Clinton. KHS takes on Clinton at 10 a.m. and Elk City at 12:15 p.m. Thursday. On Friday, the Jackets will battle Leedey at noon and Shattuck at 2 p.m.
