MANNING STILL DANCING

Sydney Manning is Sweet 16 bound. The Missouri State freshman scored seven points Monday, including a pivotal 3-pointer late in the second half, as the Lady Bears upset third-seeded Iowa State 69-60 in the second round of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament in Ames, Iowa.

Girls golf season teed off Monday in Guthrie

The Kingfisher girls’ golf team opened its season Monday with a third-place finish at the Guthrie Invitational, which was played at Aqua Canyon. The Lady Jackets shot a 395, which tied them for second place with Oklahoma Christian School. OCS got second place on the scorecard playoff.

Panthers pummeled

Kingfisher’s first loss of the season didn’t carry over into district play. Three Yellowjacket pitchers combined for two shutouts and surrendered just two hits over a pair of games in sweeping Pauls Valley 8-0 and 10-0 Monday in District 4A-2 games at Homier Field.

Homers help lift KHS past Bethany, 11-3

The long ball became a part of Kingfisher’s arsenal in a recent win over Bethany. The Jackets got two home runs Thursday, March 14, in their 11-3 victory at Bethany. Already up 3-1, KHS scored six runs to blow the game wide open in the fourth inning.

KHS tames Sabercats for 9th straight win

An explosive fourth inning got Kingfisher off to a good start to the Edmond Baseball Festival. The Jackets erupted for 11 innings in that frame en route to a 13-1 victory over Southmoore at Deer Creek High School. The win was Kingfisher’s ninth straight to start the season.

Jackets enter break with 8-0 mark

A trio of doubles in the ninth inning last Saturday helped Kingfisher’s baseball team enter Spring Break still undefeated. Sophomore Ian Daugherty’s one-out double in the top of the ninth kick-started Kingfisher’s offensive rally in a 7-6 extra-inning win at Weatherford.

What a ride for county basketball teams

SWISHER’S SUITE Well, that was fun. Kingfisher County basketball teams took us on a ride for the ages over the last month, culminating last Saturday night in one of the more epic defensive performances ever witnessed by a State Fair Arena crowd.

Trio of Jackets sweep conference honors

If it seems like deja vu when it comes to the Canadian Valley Conference basketball honors, it’s for good reason. Kingfisher High School’s Trey Green and Jett Sternberger were named 2019 co-MVPs of the conference and Jared Reese the coach of the year after a vote of the conference coaches.
