Wrestling regionals begin Friday

With dual state championships having been completed last weekend, the wrestling season is set to close out with two big weekends. The first is this Friday and Saturday when teams and individuals compete in the regional tournaments. Kingfisher has been assigned to the western regional in Class 3A.

Okarche closed out the era in its current gymnasium Saturday night with a pair of district championships. The teams’ trek to the state tournament will have to be done elsewhere.

Kingfisher weathers the Storm

The OKC Storm served its purpose by providing Kingfisher a stiff test before the playoffs, but also by not ruining Senior Night.

Hennessey’s Joyce signs with UCO

Hennessey’s Dalton Joyce will continue his football career at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. He signed his National Letter of Intent in a ceremony Wednesday. Seated with him is his mother, Lark Joyce.

Final buzzer sounds on junior high seasons

Kingfisher’s junior high basketball teams concluded their 2019 seasons last week and, once again, put together some stellar records. None topped the eighth grade boys, who finished 18-1 on the season. The Jackets lost just one game in the two-year junior high careers.

Okarche caps TRC with Cashion sweep

Okarche’s final regular season game in its current gym proved to be an exciting one - and successful to boot. Marlo Hunt fed Kassidy Rother with time running down in a tie game Tuesday night with Cashion.

KHS girls dealt pair of losses

Slow starts doomed the Kingfisher girls basketball team on back-to-back nights. KHS dropped a pair of games to ranked foes, first at Blanchard on Friday and then Saturday at home against Fairview. In both cases, the Lady Jackets’ fought back from large deficits, but couldn’t fully overcome them.

Chisholm sweeps through Cashion in Enid festival

Cashion’s trip to the Downtown Enid Basketball Festival didn’t prove friendly this year. Both squads were dealt losses by Chisholm last Friday night at the Central National Bank Center. The first and third quarters were particularly unkind to the Lady Wildcats in a 41-28 defeat.

Eagles come away with big win at Perry

Coach Brady Page only had four players score when his team battled Class 3A’s eighth-ranked Perry last Friday night. But those four did just enough. Hennessey got one of its best wins of the season by defeating the Maroons 43-40 on their home court.
