KHS outlasts BC to start district sweep

A district sweep to start the week saw the Kingfisher High School baseball team surpass last year’s win total.The Jackets downed Bridge Creek 18-17 in a wild 4A-4 matchup on the road Monday and then came back home Tuesday to grab a bit more conventional 9-6 victory.

Lady Jackets take 2nd at Fairview

Kingfisher County - especially on the girls side - had a strong showing Tuesday at the Fairview Track and Field Meet.The Kingfisher High School girls placed second overall while Lomega was fifth and Hennessey sixth out of more than two dozen teams that took part.

Warriors pick up 3 wins on GSA trip

Okarche’s baseball team traveled nearly 900 miles one way to take part in the Gulf Shores Classic over Spring Break.Ironically, the Warriors’ lone loss in the Alabama- based event came to a team 57 miles from home.

KHS seniors are Rotary Club guests

Seven Kingfisher High School seniors were guests recently at a meeting of the Kingfisher Rotary Club.Joining the local civic group were Emma McLean, Ethan McLean, Brandon Gutierrez, Logan Taylor, Josh Finley, Xavier Davis and Eric Joseph (E.J.) Gorman, Jr.

Yellowjackets split pair of games in Edmond festival

Cooper Henley and Brett Calamateo combined to give up just one run last Thursday as Kingfisher went 1-1 in the Edmond Spring Break Festival.The KHS duo did their work in an 8-1 victory over Putnam City North.The Jackets were also downed 8-1 later that day by Mustang.

Snowden is Cherokee Strip MVP

Reagan Snowden was voted the Most Valuable Player of the Cherokee Strip Conference by coaches, it was recently announced.The Lomega sophomore led her team to an undefeated conference record that also included winning the Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament championship.

Kochenower tabbed as All-State wrestler

Kingfisher’s Brayden Kochenower is officially an All-State wrestler.Kochenower was named to the 144-pound slot on Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State squad for the Small West recently.He placed third at 144 pounds in the Class 3A state tournament this season.

Johnson named all- district cager

Kingfisher senior Jeff Johnson was selected to the Northwest Oklahoma All-District basketball team recently by the Oklahoma Coaches’ Association.Johnson was chosen all-district for District 1, which includes all of northwest Oklahoma.A 6-foot-1 guard, Johnson averaged 21 points, five rebounds and 4.
YMCA CHAMPS — A group of second and third graders from Kingfisher recently finished as league champions in the 2001 YMCA Third Grade Boys’ Basketball League. The team, coached by Chris Smith, finished with an 11-2 record.
