Lomega Student Council offi cers are gearing up for the school year as they spent one morning last week decorating the front doors of the school to welcome back the junior high and high school students. They also served a meal to the school staff during their inservice meetings.

The following traffic accidents are being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department:July 10, 1 p.m. - At U.S. 81 and S.H. 33.Scott Whetham, 51, Wichita, Kan., driving a 2023 Mack Anthem, was eastbound on S.H. 33 and stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of U.S. 81.

The first time is the inaugural. The second time, it becomes annual. Dr. A.J. Johnson now hopes it becomes a tradition. Kingfisher High School students and staff gathered after first period on Monday at the fl ag plaza in front of the school.

Current Kingfisher Rotary Club President Brian Walter (right) presented a plaque to Jon Benham during last week’s meeting of the civic club. Benham served as the club president for the 2024-25 year before turning over the reins to Walter in July.

Kingfisher County commissioners tabled a decision on the bids for an emergency management mobile command trailer Monday.Kingfisher County Emergency Management Director Ryan Deatherage asked the delay to allow arrival of a bid on another part of the package.

Hennessey School Superintendent Jason Sternberger suggested – and school board members agreed – that any student whose parents fill out a form and does not qualify financially for free or reduced meals, will then receive a “discount” rate.

For the second straight year, Kingfisher Public Schools’ board of education has delayed approving an estimate of needs.Though somewhat related, the reasons behind this year’s move differ from that of 2024.

The 68th annual Kingfisher Rodeo will be held this weekend at the Kingfi sher Roundup Club.Events begin at 8 p.m. each night, with a pre-show at 7:45 p.m.The rodeo is sanctioned by the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) and the Kansas Professional Rodeo Association (KPRA).

The Ingle family of Dover headed north for vacation last week and, along the way, visited the gravesite of the namesake of Kingfisher.The city of Kingfisher was named for pre-Land Run frontiersman King David Fisher (1812-1871).He is buried on private land near Hebron, Neb.
