Okarche state-bound in golf

Okarche has multiple state tournaments in its future.

The Warrior golf team matched the baseball team’s feat by qualifying for the state tournament.

The golfers did their part Monday in a Class 2A regional at The Coves Golf Club in Afton.

The team’s 677 in the 36-hole tournament was good for third place and the final spot at state, which will be held next Monday and Tuesday at Oakwood Country Club in Enid.

Regent Prep won the regional championship with a 630. Waurika was second by shooting 669.

Okarche edged fourth-place Turpin by five strokes.

The Warriors sat in second place after the first 18 holes with their round of 340, three strokes better than Waurika and five fewer than Turpin.

The team finished the day with a 337 and was surpassed by Waurika’s 326, but enough to hold off Turpin, which also fired a 337.

The team was led by Asher Schieber, who was the fourth place medalist with his 160. Schieber shot matching rounds of 8-overpar 80.

Hudson Mueggenborg placed 10th with a 168. He also had identical rounds with his being an 84.

Carter Robinson turned in rounds of 90 and 85 for a 175, good for 23rd place.

Hunter Mueggenborg was 27th with a 176 as he shot 88 both rounds.

Lane Rother shot 88 and 92 for a 180, which placed him 35th.
