Longhorns Extend Win Streak
What baseball team entered this week with the longest win streak in the state?
The Dover Longhorns.
They extended their streak last Friday by downing Glencoe 6-0 and Union City 5-1.
After starting the season 0-2, the Longhorns have now won nine straight games.
Trypp Lack pitched six innings of six-hit ball against Union City, which was ranked eighth in Class A.
The lone run he surrendered was unearned as he struck out three batters.
Casen Buck closed out the game with an inning of work that saw him give up a hit and strike out one.
Lack helped his own cause in the bottom of the first with a solo home run for the early lead.
The Tigers tied the game in the top of the third, but it was only briefly.
The Longhorns got three straight hits in the bottom half, the last of which was a double by Brennan Fletcher to plate Ivan Ruiz and Buck.
The Longhorns added two more in the fifth, including an RBI single by Hunter Miller.
Bryce Cockayne got the five-inning shutout against Glencoe.
He only gave up one hit, struck out seven and walked four.
Dover took its lead in the second when John Browning doubled home Fletcher. A Glencoe error led to another Longhorn run in the frame.
Wild pitches and passed balls added two more Dover runs in the third.
Buck and Fletcher led off the fifth with back-to-back doubles, the second of which scored a run.
The game ended with the run rule when Miller’s sacrifice fly pushed home Fletcher.
Dover entered the weekend ranked seventh in Class B.
