Chisholm air raid spoils Hennessey home opener
Chisholm took to the air Friday night to spoil Hennessey’s home opener.
The Longhorns scored 46 unanswered points including four touchdown passes by Connor Quintero in that stretch - to pull away for a 53-14 victory.
The loss dropped Hennessey to 0-2 as the Eagles get set to wrap up their non-district slate this Friday against Crescent.
The Eagles got a 26-yard TD pass from Levi Ferrel to Luis Macias-Montoya in the first quarter to knot the score up at 7-7.
Before the Eagles scored again, the visitors had built up a 53-7 lead.
Quintero was able to hit multiple targets as his five total touchdowns went to four different receivers.
Manu Smolinski caught two of them, including a 33-yarder to give the Long-horns their first points of the game.
After the Eagles tied the game, Malachi Owens put Chisholm up for good with a 10-yard TD run in the second quarter.
Smolinski and Quintero connected again shortly after, this time from 74 yards out to extend the lead to 19-7.
It was more of the same after that.
The Longhorns led 26-7 at the half, then posted 27 more points in the third quarter.
All told, Quintero was 25 of 39 for 359 yards.
His backup, Brayson Barnes, completed all four of his attempts for 68 yards and a score.
The Longhorns had eight players catch passes. Three of them had 82 or more yards receiving with Smolinski leading the way with 102.
Hennessey couldn’t keep up.
The Eagles managed just 117 total yards.
Ferrel was 8 of 20 for 60 yards and the touchdown, but was also picked off twice.
The ground game averaged 3.2 yards per attempt and produced 57 yards.
That was bolstered by the last score of the game, a 19-yard run by Alex Gonzalez in the fourth quarter.
Gonzalez finished with 47 yards on his four carries.
The Longhorns were able to limit Mario Lopez to just four yards on 11 attempts. Lopez was able to run for over 100 yards in the Week 0 loss at Cashion.
Hagen Copeland led the receivers with four catches for 21 yards.
He also led the defense with nine stops.
Ryker Painter added eight and also picked off a pass for the Eagles.
