Smith voted district MVP
Cashion quarterback Kellen Smith was voted the 2025 District A-I-1 Most Valuable Player by coaches.
A junior, Smith had 2,155 yards and 25 touchdowns passing and another 958 and 10 TDs on the ground.
He also had 52 tackles on defense.
Smith helped guide Cashion to an 8-3 overall record, including a 5-2 mark in district games, which was good for third place.
Fairview won the district with a 7-0 record.
The Yellowjackets’ Alex Houk was named the Offensive MVP and Ridge Cotrill the Defensive MVP.
Three Cashion players earned Player of the Year honors at their respective positions:
• Juan Mendez, offensive line
• Gavin Layton, insider linebacker
• Andrew Stockton, kicker Mendez helped anchor a line that produced an average of 35.5 points and 383.9 yards per game.
Layton recorded 52 tackles for the Wildcats on defense.
Stockton’s season included several big kicks, including the game-winning extra-point in the second overtime of a win at Velma- Alma.
Also picking up all-district honors for Cashion were Rival Fields at running back, Slade Williams at fullback, Grayson Davis at wide receiver, Ethan Waswo and Kyler Wear at defensive line, Austin Compton at linebacker and Hank Brown at defensive back.
