Buckle wraps up Wednesday
More than a week after it started, the Buckle of the Wheatbelt Invitational basketball tournament concludes Wednesday in Kingfisher.
The tournament was originally scheduled for Jan. 22-24, but was moved up a day due to the projected weather that was going to hit the state.
Teams began play last Wednesday and continued into Thursday.
However, the tournament was again rearranged due to multiple teams unable to make the trip back on Friday.
That leaves five games - including three that feature KHS teams - to be played Wednesday, Jan. 28.
The first is the seventh- place boys game between KHS JV and Harrah at 2 p.m.
The Kingfisher JV boys have been a filler on each day of the tournament for teams that couldn’t make the trip.
The second game of the day is the third-place girls game between Woodward and Harrah, which tips off at about 3:30 p.m.
The Kingfisher and Woodward boys will clash for the boys’ third-place trophy at 5 p.m.
Following that will be the Kingfisher Lady Jackets gunning for their sixth consecutive Buckle championship as they play Weatherford at 6:30 p.m.
The boys’ title game will feature Weatherford and Perkins-Tryon at 8 p. m.
