Lady Warrior defense shuts down Crescent in 2nd half
Brett Tahah said it looked like her team hadn’t played or practiced in about a week.
For good reason. Playing for the first time in eight days, Okarche put the defensive clamps on Crescent in a 41-22 victory at home.
After surrendering 11 points in the first quarter, the Lady Warriors only gave up 11 more the rest of the game, including none in the third quarter.
“We just played solid, half-court man-to-man defense,” Tahah said of her Lady Warriors, who improved to 15-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Three Rivers Conference.
Crescent entered the game 13-4 and had won four straight and scored at least 49 points in each of those wins.
But the Lady Tigers couldn’t solve Okarche’s defense, especially in the second half.
Crescent was just 2 of 19 (10.5 percent) from the floor over the final two quarters and 9 of 34 (26.5 percent) for the game.
Still Crescent led 16-15 at the half as Okarche wasn’t lighting up the nets, either.
The Lady Warriors were only 4 of 22 in the first half before going on a 15-0 run in the decisive third quarter.
They also helped themselves at the free throw by making all but one of 12 attempts in the second half and 17 of 24 for the game.
Crescent attempted only six free throws, making just one.
The Lady Tigers were led by Trinity Webster’s 10 points.
Logan White led Okarche with 16 points.
Katie Parham added 14 points and 8 rebounds, which was another area her team dominated.
The Lady Warriors won the rebound battle 39-19.
