One of the most anticipated games of the Skordle Festival lived up to its hype.

Lomega surrendered a big lead, then outplayed Riverside down the stretch on Friday to pull out a 7874 victory at Hennessey’s Eagle Event Center.

Behind its trademark early barrage, Lomega built a 44-28 halftime lead over the sixth-ranked team in Class 2A.

However, the Braves fired back in the third quarter to outscore Lomega 2711 and tie the game entering the final frame.

The Braves hardly cooled off.

Three different players made a 3-pointer and they scored 19 points.

One of those came from Holli Harvey, who scored 7 in the quarter and 26 in the game.

But while Riverside had one player reach the 20-point mark, Lomega had three.

And all three showed up in the fourth quarter.

Reagan Snowden, Paige Wheeler and Aliana Lawson scored 20 points apiece as Class B-II’s No. 1 team improved to 19-1.

Lawson scored 8 in the fourth, including a big three-point play.

Wheeler made a 3-pointer in the quarter, Lomega’s first since the first half, and was 4 of 4 from the free throw line down the stretch.

Snowden added 6 points in the fourth and made both of her free throws.

All told, Lomega went 12 of 13 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and 21 of 26 for the contest.

Riverside was just 7 of 14 for the game.

The Braves did notch one more 3-pointer (9) than did Lomega in the game.

Bobiey Parker made two in that third quarter burst and four in the game and scored 13.

Harvey added three of her own.

Riverside also got 16 points from Kane Haumpy, including 10 in the third quarter.

The loss ended a 14game win streak for Riverside, which dropped to 16-4.

Lomega raced to a 2115 lead in the first quarter as Wheeler scored 9 and Snowden 8.

The Lady Raiders extended their lead to 16 points with a 23-point output in the second.

Seven different Lomega players scored in the frame before Riverside made its comeback after the break.

With little time to rest, Lomega returned home Saturday to down Medford 72-41 in a game that was originally scheduled the previous Tuesday, but had to be postponed due to snow.

It was a rematch of the Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament title game and went much the same way.

Lomega was up 32-20 at halftime, then poured on a 23-10 run in the third quarter.

Snowden scored 9 in that run and had 17 in the game.

Wheeler chipped in 13 while Lawson scored 9 as Lomega pushed its season mark to 20-1.

•••

Lomega managed to beat Medford by 11 points when they met late last month in the Cherokee Strip Conference Tournament semifi-nals.

When their Cardinals got their shot at revenge last Saturday?

They got beat by 19. Lomega put its offense on display over the final three quarters and downed visiting Medford 71-52.

Trailing by three after having just scored 12 in the first quarter, the Raiders outscored their guests 1910 in the second and then scored 20 points in each of the final two quarters.

The damage was done thanks to the inside-outside duo of Jaxson Snowden and Lance Yost.

Snowden scored 12 points in the second quarter - which did include his lone 3-pointer of the game.

Yost then heated up from the outside in the second half.

He made two treys in each the third and fourth quarters and had five in the contest.

Snowden finished with 26 and Yost scored 21 as the Raiders pulled away.

Lomega also got 7 points from Noah Lentz as it improved to 13-8.

The team’s eighth loss came the night before in the Skordle Festival in Hennessey.

Class 2A’s sixth-ranked Riverside downed the Raiders 68-50.

The Braves made eight 3-pointers, twice as many as Lomega.

The Raiders were within seven points at halftime, but saw the lead pushed to double digits in the third before scoring just 6 points in the fourth quarter.

Snowden scored 22 in the loss while Yost had 10, all in the first half.
