Lomega boys sent to consolation bracket
When Jaxson Snowden knocked down a baseline jumper with 1:20 left in the first half, all was right in the world at Lomega.
Snowden’s shot put the Raiders up 27-10 against No. 19 Cimarron in their Class B-II regional semifinal game.
The Raiders were up 15 at the half, but the second half - namely the third quarter - told a different story, one that saw the 16thranked team upset by the Blazers, 46-41.
“Turnovers…a lot of them.”
That was coach Justin Edsall’s response when asked what led to his team losing its lead.
It began in the third quarter when Lomega was held to one field goal and outscored 19-3 by the Blazers.
The big lead had turned into a three-point deficit.
Cimarron got a combined 13 points from Drake Butler and Ethan Butler in the third quarter, both of whom were held scoreless in the first half.
Ethan Butler continued his surge into the fourth quarter by adding 7 more points.
He finished with 12. John Pratt was the steady force for Cimarron. He scored at least one field goal in every frame and led his team with 14. Drake Butler scored all 8 of his points in that third quarter.
Lomega built its lead on the backs of Snowden and Lance Yost.
Snowden’s shot that put the Raiders up by 17 points gave him 12 in the half.
Yost nailed three firsthalf 3-pointers and had 11.
He didn’t score again until the fourth quarter when he knocked down two more 3-pointers, but the Raiders couldn’t overcome their deficit.
Snowden led the team with 18 while Yost scored 17.
Cameron Ramer was the only other Raider to score with 6 points.
Lomega heads to the playoff consolation bracket with the loss.
