Yellowjackets split pair of games in Edmond festival
Cooper Henley and Brett Calamateo combined to give up just one run last Thursday as Kingfisher went 1-1 in the Edmond Spring Break Festival.
The KHS duo did their work in an 8-1 victory over Putnam City North.
The Jackets were also downed 8-1 later that day by Mustang.
KHS was 6-4 on the season entering this week, which started with a District 4A-4 home-andhome series with Bridge Creek.
Henley got the start and lasted 4 1/3 innings as he gave up just two hits and an earned run.
The right-hander struck out four and walked two.
Calamateo gave up three hits and struck out three over his 2 2/3 innings.
The offense was provided largely by a pair of freshmen as Collin Farrar and Jazen Surveyor combined for 4 RBIs.
Surveyor got his in the top of the second when he sent a shot over the center field wall.
The blast also brought home Kaden Cline for a 2-0 Jacket lead.
Farrar got his in the top of the sixth as his single scored both Brody Boeckman and Surveyor.
Jagger Braun and Henley also had bases-loaded walks in the inning as the Jacket lead grew to 6-1.
Boeckman added a run-scoring triple in the seventh inning.
The junior was the lone Jacket with multiple hits as he went 2 for 3 with an RBI and runs scored.
Braun and Surveyor each scored twice while Cline walked three times and found his way home three times as well.
Farrar led off the game against Mustang with a double and scored on Henley’s single as KHS struck first.
However, the Broncos didn’t let the Jackets score - or collect a hit - again.
Mustang tied the game up in the bottom of the third and then took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth.
The Broncos collected seven hits off a trio of KHS pitchers - Farrar, Drew Snider and Surveyor.
