The championship trophy of the Hennessey High School Boys Golf Invitational will once again reside in Kingfisher.

The Yellowjackets torched the field Wednesday to win the tournament held at Turkey Creek Golf Course by 50 strokes.

Kingfisher shot a 298 to cruise past second-place Washington’s 348 and win the tournament for a third consecutive year.

“It’s always good to shoot under 300,” said KHS golf coach Chris Combs.

“But I’m especially proud of how they responded to very windy conditions to put up our best numbers of the season.

Medalist honors also went home with a KHS golfer for a third year in a row.

Senior Peyton Burns shot a 1-under-par 69 to edge Crescent’s Dominic Stevens for the day’s best score.

Burns also won the tournament as a sophomore.

Last year’s winner, Colby Campbell, finished third this year with a 73 while Caleb Cameron’s 74 was good for fifth.

Caden Hill shot his best round of the young season with an 82 while Logun Burnham fired an 83.

Garrett States, playing as an individual, shot a 90.

“We made some birdies and didn’t waste as many shots as the previous two tournaments,” Combs said. “Hopefully, we can continue that momentum here next Monday.”

Kingfisher hosts its annual invitational this week. The large-school version, featuring the Yellowjackets, is Monday at Kingfisher Golf Course.

The small-school version is Wednesday.

Cordell took third in the tournament with a 365 and Crescent fourth at 370.

Jackson Watkins shot a 96 for the Tigers, followed by Cade Watkins with a 97, Colton Lively a 107 and Caden Stout a 124.

Twelve full teams competed in the tournament. Hennessey golfers were taking the ACT and were unable to compete.

Kingfisher on Monday took third in the Tournament of Champions at Ada’s Oak Hills Golf and Country Club with its 320.

Burns was eighth individually with a 79.

Campbell and Cameron tied for ninth with their 80s.

Burnham shot an 87 and Hill a 105.

Heritage Hall won the tournament with a 291. Ada was the runner-up at

306.
