Bell repeats in pole vault
Kylee Bell will graduate from Dover this week as a two-time state champion.
The senior repeated as the Class A champ in the pole vault on Saturday during the state track and field meet at Western Heights High School.
She won the event by clearing 10 feet, 6 inches. Runner-up Hynlee Hart of Thomas saw her best jump at 9-6.
The competition started at 6-6, but Bell didn’t “jump in” until the bar reached 9 feet.
By that time, only four other competitors remained. Two of them dropped out at that height.
Bell cleared 9-0 and 9-6 on her first try.
Hart was the only other athlete to clear 9-6, but she failed all three attempts at 10-0.
Bell was able to clear that - and secure her gold medal - on her first attempt.
She also was successful on her first try at 10-6 before missing on her three tries at 11 feet.
Bell has now medaled in the event four times.
She was fourth in Class 2A as a freshman at Crescent High School and was runner-up in Class A at Dover as a sophomore.
Bell also competed in the high jump at state and placed 10th this year.
