Kingfisher’s most historic softball season yet came just one win short of being even more momentous.

But when the final out was recorded on Thursday afternoon, it was Broken Bow - not the Lady Jackets - celebrating a berth in the Class 4A state tournament.

Facing elimination, the fourth-ranked Lady Savages downed Kingfisher twice to win a super regional on their home field deep in southeastern Oklahoma.

Kingfisher, playing in a super regional for the first time, claimed Game 1 on Wednesday with a convincing 7-2 win.

Broken Bow bounced back in the second game Wednesday with a 4-2 victory and then won the decisive game 9-1.

Kingfisher’s season - one that featured a win on the main field at Devon Park, a first-ever district championship and a first-ever regional championship - came to a close with a 24-9 record.

With the exception of a three-game stretch in which it was missing two of its best players, Broken Bow was held below four runs only one time in 27 games.

Lily Voth made it twice as she quelled the potent Lady Savage bats in the opener, limiting them to just five hits.

Meanwhile, Kingfisher scored in four different frames, including three in the sixth inning to add some cushion to a lead it already owned.

That inning included a two-run home run to right-center field by senior Adlee Friesen.

She was 2 for 4 in the game and scored twice.

Kinlee East and Voth both had three hits. East drove in a run and Voth two.

Callie Blair gave KHS its first lead with an RBI single in the second inning.

Voth added a run-scoring hit in the third.

After Broken Bow tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, East gave the Lady Jackets the lead for good with her RBI single in the fifth inning.

Voth followed with a shot off the wall to push home another run.

It appeared Khloe Williams, a Texas Tech commitment, tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, but Liliana Garramone caught it at the wall to end that threat.

KHS then took command in the next half-inning.

Kingfisher was able to chase Tyson Woolsey after six innings.

The Lady Jackets roughed her up for 11 hits.

However, Woolsey just got stronger as the super regional went on.

And Broken Bow’s bats - it appeared - were ready to explode in Wednesday’s second game.

The Lady Savages took advantage of a single, two doubles, a walk and a KHS error to plate four runs in the top of the first inning off of Kinlee East.

But that was it. Once East got out of that frame, she practically cruised, allowing only four hits and no runs over the final six frames.

Kingfisher cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the second when Addison Johnson sent a shot over the left-field wall.

However, her two-run bomb was all KHS could muster as Woolsey regrouped.

She didn't allow a KHS run the rest of the way and held the Lady Jackets to six hits.

Voth and Friesen both had two hits apiece for Kingfisher.

That set up a winnertake- all in Game 3 and Broken Bow turned to Woolsey again after having thrown 179 pitches the day before.

Friesen led off the game with a single, but Woolsey allowed only four more hits the rest of the game.

KHS head coach Tiffany Goodwin handed the ball to Voth, who threw 99 pitches in her win the day before.

Broken Bow was able to get runners in scoring position in the second and one of them scored on a wild pitch.

However, Johnson caught a bunt attempt in the air and completed a double play to limit the damage to a lone run.

The Lady Jackets got three of their hits in consecutive at-bats - all with two outs - in the top of the third.

Friesen, Ryan Scammahorn and Kendall Farrar delivered those hits with the last one producing the game-tying run.

But Woolsey was stingy the rest of the game and Broken Bow’s bats were just heating up.

The Lady Savages scored in four consecutive innings as they began to pull away.

All told, they collected 12 hits.

Kingfisher was seeking its first trip to the state tournament in the program’s history.

Broken Bow locked up its seventh trip and its second in three years.
