Top-ranked Rattan downs Warriors in quarterfinals
One big inning proved enough for Rattan.
The top-ranked Rams plated five runs in the second inning and rode that to a 6-1 victory against Okarche on Thursday in the Class A baseball state quarterfinals at Shawnee High School.
Rattan moved into Friday’s semifinals while Okarche saw its season end with a 15-15 record.
The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the second when Rattan took advantage of three hits, a sacrifice fly, an intentional walk, a hit batter and an error to score its runs.
The Warriors couldn’t overcome it.
Their lone run came in the sixth when Jag Mueggenborg walked, advanced on a single by Tucker White and then scored on Cooper Anderson’s hit.
The Warriors had three of their four hits in that inning.
Court Sumrall and Mueggenborg also had hits.
Jett Yost pitched the first three innings and gave up five hits for Okarche.
He struck out three and walked two.
Grady Terrell pitched the final three frames and gave up a pair of hits and had a strikeout.
Okarche is the defending fall state champ and was making its fourth straight appearance in the fall state tournament.
